On August 30, 2016 the Health Impact Collaborative of Cook County hosted a Health Equity Planning Kickoff Meeting at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The meeting kick-started the transition from collaborative community health needs assessment to collaborative implementation planning. We received input from approximately 130 partners representing diverse hospitals/health systems, health departments, healthcare organizations, community based organizations, and government agencies.
The meeting’s morning session featured a review of the collaborative’s progress in the last 18 months and an interactive keynote presentation by Soma Stout, MD MS, Executive Lead, 100 Million Healthier Lives Campaign. The afternoon session featured a presentation and discussion about health equity approaches to improving community health by Angela Odoms-Young, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition, University of Illinois at Chicago.
